The Girard brand was launched in 1935 in San Francisco with a recipe for Girard's Original French Dressing that had been created by Wilfred L. Girard. The latter opened Girard's French Restaurant in partnership with McCone W. Girard. This restaurant was sited on the third floor, above the historic John's Grill (founded in 1908) at 63 Ellis Street in San Francisco. It was the first restaurant in San Francisco to welcome its guests to a third floor location. The concept of high-quality salad dressings continues to dominate the output of the company. Over 100 recipes of salad dressing are produced at its Los Angeles site under the name GFF Inc. These are in turn complemented by a range of sauces such as dips and mayonnaises.

The company has 85 employees. Numerous specialty products and customer requests can be offered in an array of different packagings. These are complemented by several bouillon products as well as, from 2012, several dessert products that are produced on site. Wholesale food and restaurant suppliers, as well as several renowned suppliers of fresh-salad products that are distributed in retail outlets constitute the main customers.
