Inventions, pioneering feats, Nobel prize winners. The annals of HACO are a fascinating log of progress and success.
HACO was founded in 1922 as production and distribution site for specialities of the Bernese pharmacy Haaf & Co. (which gave the name to HACO). One year later, the company acquired the factory TexTon in Gümligen, including the manufacturing process of soups and bouillons. Thus HACO was active both in the pharmaceutical industry as well as in the food sector. In the year 1929 the co-operation with Migros started and is still on-going. The pharmaceutical research was a success too. The HACO employee, Prof. Dr. T. Reichstein discovered the synthesis of vitamine C as well as the cortine and cortisone and was awarded the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1950.
In the year 1965 the pharmaceutical production ceases and the activities are concentrated on food products.
